v28-4 Key Juror in Chicago Conspiracy Trial Had Edgewater Roots

Vol. XXVIII No. 4 - FALL 2017

By Marjorie Fritz-Birch

“My Mother, Jean Brown Fritz, who served on the Chicago Conspiracy Trial in 1969-70 and was a dissenting juror, lived in Edgewater from 1930 to 1938. She lived with her mother and brother in a one room basement apartment in the 5600 block of Kenmore, and then moved to an apartment building on Bryn Mawr across from the Belle Shore Hotel. She told me many stories about the Belle Shore, the Sovereign and the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Hollywood Beach was a favorite hangout when she wasn’t attending Senn High School and the Church of the Atonement. She loved Edgewater, and when she married and moved to Des Plaines, she missed and loved Chicago always.“
